Burn Hazard Prompts Recall for Pots and Pans
Orlando product liability attorneys are following a recent recall involving potentially defective cookware. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced the recall of 1.7 million Royal Prestige Thermal Wall pots and pans due to burn and fire hazards. The CPSC investigated the cookware after receiving complaints that it collapsed, crimped and became severely deformed when exposed to heat, creating a serious fire and burn hazard. Hy Cite Enterprises, the importer of the cookware, reported that it has received 1,136 complaints about Royal Prestige Thermal Wall pots and pans malfunctioning. One person reported that the pan collapsed inward while she was cooking and splattered her with hot oil.
The recall specifically affects stainless steel 9-ply "Thermal Wall" pans sold under the "Royal Prestige" brand name. These pots and pans are sold separately and in sets and include the following cookware:
- 1.5 qt. saucepan
- 2 qt. saucepan
- 3 qt. Dutch oven
- 4 qt. Dutch oven
- 6 qt. Dutch oven
- 8 qt. Dutch oven
- 8" skillet
- 10.5" skillet
- 10" paella pan
- 14" paella pan
Anyone who may own one or more of the recalled pots and pans can look for a seal imprinted on the bottom of the pot or pan that says "Thermal Wall" and "9-Ply". According to the CPSC, the recalled pots and pans were sold door-to-door and are not available through retailers. Anyone affected by the recall can contact Hy Cite Enterprises at (800) 609-9577 or http://www.royalprestige.com/ for more information.
It may be difficult to understand how a product made to transfer heat to food could collapse when it gets hot, but it most certainly is not difficult to see how such a defective product could be dangerous and cause serious injuries. A collapsing pan of hot oil or boiling water could cause horrible, disfiguring burns or start a kitchen fire causing many thousands of dollars of damage.
