Two Women Narrowly Escape after Orlando Home Fills With Carbon Monoxide
Two women within Orange County nearly died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning after a car was left running inside of a garage throughout the entire night. The garage in question is attached to a home located along the 10000 block of Orlando’s Creekwater Boulevard. It is believed that at least one of the people involved in the incident is the owner of the home.
Officials with the Orange County Fire Rescue said that the two women, one of whom is in her 80’s, were inside of the home for an unknown amount of time while the car ran in the garage and filled the home with deadly carbon monoxide. The timing of the events remains uncertain, but it appears that one of the women from the home woke up and realized there was some sort of problem and then left the residence and approached a person in a neighboring house for help.
The person approached was a nurse who was working in the neighbor’s home. This nurse followed the woman back to the house, reporting that as soon as she opened the door she was nearly overcome with carbon monoxide fumes. The nurse also told investigators that both of the women were unable to stand straight and that they exhibited signs of confusion as well as excessive sweating. 9-1-1 was called and soon both of the women were being rushed to Advent Health Orlando.
A report from the Orange County Fire Rescue Public Information Officer stated that highly abnormal levels of carbon monoxide were discovered both within the garage as well as along the second floor of the house in question. This report went on to state that the two women who were involved managed to escape only through incredible luck, and that carbon monoxide, due to its colorless and odorless properties, can easily lead to fatalities in situations exactly such as this one.
Now investigators are trying to figure out just how it was that the car inside of the garage came to be on for such a long stretch of time. Reports relating to this incident will continue to emerge as the investigation goes forward.
