Musician Marc Anthony’s Enormous Yacht Burns and Sinks in Miami

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 29, 2019

Wealthy, successful musicians are no strangers to front page news sort of events. In fact, one might say that this is all part of showbiz. However, sometimes these events are hardly what can be counted among what the entertainer anticipated when they set out on the path to stardom. Such is the case for the mega-star Marc Anthony who had docked their 120-foot yacht at a well-known marina located just off of Watson Island.

Reports from the Miami Fire Department indicated that it was sometime during the night of Wednesday, December 18th, that a fire broke out on the massive luxury vessel, moored at the Island Gardens Marina. The famous singer was not aboard the ship when the fire began, and just what happened to cause the conflagration remains the subject of speculation pending a full investigation by the Miami Fire Department, but reports that were relied on by CNN among other news sources indicated that several members of the yacht’s crew were aboard when the fire broke out.

While it is not believed that anyone was injured in the blaze, we do know that these crew members were forced to flee from the boat as the flames and smoke became completely overwhelming.

It is not clear if the emergency response crews reached the area in time to begin battling the fire on the boat, but it is clear that the rapidity with which the flames spread ultimately caused the boat to capsize and sink.

An investigation into the surprising incident remains underway, although it is not clear just how this will continue now that the boat and all of the evidence has been submerged underwater. For insurance purposes, the boat will be pulled from the water and examined, with this hopefully giving us more information as to just what caused the destructive blaze that ultimately destroyed the multi-million dollar luxury toy.

It is extremely fortunate that none of the individuals aboard the ship were injured or worse in the fire, although it is not clear just what the environmental impact of the fire and the sinking boat will have on the surrounding marine wildlife. The investigation will hopefully supply more answers to questions such as this.
