Father and Child Narrowly Escape Orlando House Fire

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on August 2, 2019

A lightning strike is believed to be behind a destructive house fire that consumed a home in Orange County on either Sunday, July 28th, or Monday, July 29th. What we know so far is that the incident took place during a large storm that moved through the area over the end of the weekend. This storm included powerful bolts of lightning that were blasting from the clouds down to the ground.

The home in question was located along the 1900 block of Scranton Avenue, inside of the city of Orlando. This area, which lies close to both State Road 420 and State Road 50, is home to numerous mobile structures, all lying somewhat close together, so a fire which breaks out in one of these areas can quickly become a massive issue for numerous families.

Fortunately, after the initial lightning strike, a call to emergency response crews resulted in numerous units from the Orange County Fire Rescue rushing to the area in a swift response to the call. It is due both to the rapid emergency call as well as the efficient response that the fire crews were able to subdue the blaze before it spread to other buildings. They were also able to stop the fire from consuming the entire house, although it is not clear at this time if the structure is repairable if the fire completely undermined all structural integrity.

Inside of the home at the time of the fire were a father and his child. When the fire broke out, the two of them were able to escape from the building without suffering any injuries. Additionally, a cat that lives inside of the building was also found alive inside a pile of clothing lying in a portion of the home that was not immediately affected by the flames.

At the time of this writing, it is believed that one of the home’s bedrooms as well as its bathroom were the primary areas damaged by the lightening and subsequent fire.

The father and his child are currently displaced, and it is not clear what sort of aid options have arisen for them in this time.
