Critical Injuries for Person Trapped in Condo Fire in Rockledge

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 29, 2018

A fire that occurred within the city of Rockledge in Brevard County on Saturday, October 20th, resulted in one individual sustaining severe burn injuries. Reports from News 6 that have emerged through conversations with the Rockledge Fire Department stated that the incident was first reported close to midnight on Saturday.

It is not clear who placed the first emergency call to the fire department, but numerous witnesses to the incident told reporters about seeing a massive ball of smoke rising above a set of condominiums located along Huntington Lane, only a short distance away from the City Hall of Rockledge. Additionally, residents of the condominium reported experiencing the sudden incursion of smoke into their homes and that this smoke was coming up through the floor vents.

The condominium that began to burn was home to at least two people, and it is believed that both of these people were inside of the unit at the time when the blaze started. Reports indicate that one of these people broke a pane of glass in order to escape from the home, went to neighboring units in order to check on the well-being of other residents, and then reentered their own unit in order to rescue the second person still trapped within.

Due to the construction of the block of condos, the fire did not spread to any of the other units, but the one affected was badly damaged. Residents from units surrounding the one that burned told reporters that the fire was so hot that they could feel it through the floor and ceiling.

One person, it is not clear whom, suffered severe burns as a result of the blaze. When paramedics and EMTs arrived, they decided to airlift this individual from the scene of the incident to an Orlando hospital for advanced medical attention. It is not known if they were able to be stabilized after the fire or if they remain in critical condition.

No information currently exists regarding the precise cause of the fire, and the investigation into the reasons behind the blaze are ongoing. Additional updates to this story will emerge as they become publicly available.
