Child Nearly Drowns in Orlando World Center Marriott Pool

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 10, 2018

Orange County Sheriff’s Office officials are currently in the process of investigating an incident that happened at the Orlando World Center Marriott this past Sunday and resulted in the near death of a young child. Official news on the swimming pool accident is hard to come by, and all we know comes from a small report issued from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, although it is not clear if this report came from an official press conference, press release, or simply through the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s Twitter account.

The incident happened, as stated above, on Sunday, July 1st, although it is not clear at what time during the day it took place. A child, either 10 or 11 years of age, was either playing in or standing by the pool in the World Center Marriott located at 8701 World Center Drive. It is not known at this time if the pool employs a lifeguard or if it is an area where people are told to swim at their own risk. It is also not known if the hotel’s pool holds any rules regarding the use of the facilities by young children.

While the 10 or 11-year-old child was playing in or standing by the pool, something occurred to cause him to sink to the bottom of the water without the ability to return to the pool’s surface. Early reports did not indicate if the child fell into the water, or if they were already in the pool at the time of the incident, and there was also no mention of the circumstances which caused the child to sink below the water without being able to bring themselves back up for air.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office first heard of the incident when they received a call telling them that a child had almost drowned in the pool. The report did not indicate if the child was still in danger of drowning when the police arrived, and it is also not known if the deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office did anything to aid the child once they arrived.

An emergency medical team also responded to the 9-1-1 call and the young person was rushed to Celebration Hospital where he is currently believed to be in stable condition.
