Bithlo Home Destroyed in Explosion and Fire

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on July 16, 2019

Two individuals living in the town of Bithlo are recovering from a sudden and aggressive fire that consumed the home in which they were living. Thankfully, both of the people as well as a dog that was living in the home were able to escape safely, but the home itself was declared to be a total loss. It is not known if the individuals were able to pull out any of their personal belongings before the fire consumed them.

The events leading up to the incident are as follows:

It was on the night of Sunday, July 7th, that the owner of a home along a stretch of 4th Street that lies to the north of Colonial Drive decided to link his home to a propane generator. The reason for this was that a number of large and potentially dangerous storms were predicted to sweep through the area, likely causing power outages throughout large swaths of the region. In order to prevent loss of power, the homeowner hooked the generator up to the home and was using it to power the building.

It was close to 4:00 on Monday morning when the generator suddenly stopped working. It is not clear if the homeowner was already awake or if they were suddenly awakened due to the loss of power. The person then left the home and approached the generator. It is not clear exactly what happened next, but the reports state that it was while the homeowner was going to check on the generator that the explosion took place.

The individual understood quickly the aggression of the blaze and immediately rushed back into the home to wake their fiance as well as retrieve their dog. The three of them then fled the home as the flames began to grow in strength and size.

Firefighters were called to the scene and were soon on hand to extinguish the blaze. It is not known how long it took before the fire was declared officially subdued, but we do know that it was not before the home was completely destroyed.

An investigation into the incident remains in progress.
