Altamonte Springs Resident Saved from Fire by Neighbor

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 7, 2018

A resident of Altamonte Springs narrowly escaped severe injury or death after their home caught fire on Friday, November 2nd. According to a report from the Seminole County Fire Department, the blaze was first reported close to 2:00 in the afternoon. At this time, emergency calls suggested that a fire was either well under way or just beginning at a home located along Hermitage Drive.

It is not known who first called the fire department, but it was most certainly not the home’s resident as they were asleep at the time. A neighbor who saw the fire either knew that the homeowner was still in the building or had reason to suspect this was the case. This neighbor rushed to the home’s front door and began to bang on it wildly. The resident of the home told reporters that the smell of smoke had reached them through their dreams but that they simply assumed that someone within the neighborhood was in the process of cooking something outside. It was not until the loud banging at the door fully roused them from their sleepy stupor that they realized that the home was, in fact, ablaze.

With the help of the neighbor, the homeowner was also able to find and gather his dog before leaving the building. At the current time, it is not believed that anyone was injured in the fire, although it is not entirely clear just how severe the damage was to the building. We do know that the first responders were able to save the building from complete destruction.

Preliminary reports from the investigating team suggest that the fire began inside of the garage. The reports did not mention whether or not the garage is attached to the home or if it lies some distance away. What we do know is that the investigative team has yet to report on what they believe to be the reasons behind the fire. Sudden blazes like this can be the result of any number of anomalies and oddities within a home, a fact that the investigative team will take into due consideration as they work their way towards a conclusion.
