Two Injured during House Fire in Pine Hills
A fire at a private residence in Pine Hills was the cause of one hospitalization and one injured ankle early on Wednesday morning after firefighters with the Orange County Fire Rescue arrived to battle the flames. The report from the Orange County Fire Rescue does not detail the names of the individual involved or the name of the firefighter who also wound up needing attendance by medical personnel, however it does paint a partial picture of the events leading up to the two injuries. It seems that an individual inside of a home located along Hastings Court was in their kitchen when the fire began. It is not clear whether or not the individual in question was using the stove or some other heat-creating item or if there was a malfunction with the wiring on one of the appliances.
Based on the information provided, it seems that the person inside of the home called 9-1-1 to report the sudden fire. At some point, either before or after the call, the individual came into close contact with the flame and experienced burns along their hands. No account was made as to whether or not the individual was attempting to battle the flames or if the emergence of the fire was sudden enough to catch them by surprise.
The Orange County Fire Rescue teams arrived at the Hastings Court Home (located close to Hastings Street) and rushed into the house to subdue the flames. The report indicates that the fire team arrived quickly enough to ensure that the flames did not spread any further than the kitchen of the home, and in fact that the fire was almost completely relegated to the area around the stove.
At some point during the operation, one of the firefighters working with the team fell and twisted an ankle. It is not known whether or not the firefighter was in the home at the time of their injury or if they were outside and preparing to enter.
The individual with burns on their hands was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. No information on the severity of their condition was given.
