Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Claims Rise to Nearly 5,000 in Recent Weeks
As the number of claims filed against Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina continues to climb into the thousands, people that have been personally affected by the contaminated drinking water are thankfully starting to stand up and speak out in staggering numbers due to the PACT Act that was passed by Congress earlier this year.
For nearly thirty years, countless civilians, contract workers, and multiple members of the military either served or lived at Camp Lejeune until finally in 1982 when scientists with the United States Marine Corps tested the tainted drinking water and discovered several toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that have been known to cause cancer and other debilitating diseases.
According to their internal investigations and research, military officials believe that the water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune was contaminated with cancer-causing carcinogens and toxins from the Hadnot Point and Tarawa Terrace treatment plants located near the military base. Initially built to provide clean drinking water for this small community in southeast Onslow County, these two facilities have been deemed responsible for distributing the dangerous, chemical-filled drinking water to Camp Lejeune and the surrounding neighborhoods.
If you or a family member lived or worked at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune for at least thirty days between August 1953 through December 1987, and have been diagnosed with any of the following life-altering diseases, you could be entitled to financial compensation for loss of wages, pain, suffering, and medical bills.
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Parkinson’s disease
- Bladder, breast, esophageal, kidney, liver, and lung cancers
- Lou Gehrig’s disease
- Scleroderma
- Leukemia
- Aplastic anemia
- Renal toxicity and failure
- Multiple myeloma
