Four-Year-Old Child Drowns in Volusia County Pond

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on November 6, 2019

Tragedy struck in Osteen during the end of October when a 4-year-old child went missing only to be found shortly afterwards floating in a pond. The drowning accident was reported on by deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department. According to the initial statements on the subject, the 4-year-old was in the garage with his father and several siblings shortly before they were discovered in the pond. It was a Saturday, and the family was gathered in the garage. It is not clear how many people were in the garage at the time, but the wording of the report made it clear that the father of the 4-year-old as well as several siblings were all together.

It is not clear who was in charge of watching the young child, but at a certain point it appears that they wandered out of the garage and down the driveway. The reports did not speculate as to what drew the child away from their family inside of the garage, but it seems clear that after they left the protective zone of their home they wandered across the property and towards a pond located close to the family residence.

Exact times are not clear, but the father of the 4-year-old stated that they noticed the missing child only a short while after the child left the garage. The family then began to search for the child. Their efforts took them to the pond, where the child was discovered floating in the water. The report did not indicate just what happened to cause the child to wind up in the pond, and it is not clear if an investigation into the situation remains underway.

After discovering his child in the water, the father rushed to them and pulled them to land. The father then began performing CPR on the unresponsive child while someone else contacted emergency response crews. When first responders arrived at the scene of the incident, they took over CPR duties from the father. The child was then rushed to Arnold Palmer Hospital located in Orlando. Several days later, on Monday, the child was pronounced dead.
