Pedestrian Struck and Run Over in Orlando Intersection
In Orlando this past Sunday a pedestrian was killed after being struck by one car and run over by another. According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s report, the accident, which took place near the intersection of Lee Road and Edgewater Drive, occurred right before 8:00 in the evening, while people were making their ways home in preparation for another long week. Two cars, neither of which have been publicly identified, although their drivers (whose names have not been released) are known and working with the police in the resolution of this case, were driving down Lee Road when a pedestrian, who has also not yet been named, appeared before them.
According to the statement of the Florida Highway Patrol (which used extensive eyewitness accounts before releasing any information) the pedestrian began walking across the road and into the direct path of the car. It has not been stated whether or not the pedestrian used a crosswalk or if there was a light at the intersection. It has also not been indicated whether or not the pedestrian had the right of way or if this was a traffic juncture where a pedestrian x-ing existed. All that is known is that this individual began walking across the road and directly into the path of one of the oncoming vehicles.
The driver of the first vehicle did not have time to swerve out of the way or stop. The car struck the pedestrian with tremendous force, throwing the individual into the next lane. There, the second car was also unable to avoid them and ran the pedestrian over before being able to stop.
Due to the injuries they suffered, the pedestrian was dead at the scene before the emergency response teams were able to transport them to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Neither of the drivers involved were injured in the accident, and there were no other vehicles or individuals involved. As of this moment, the investigation is still underway as the authorities attempt to discover just what happened and why. No charges have been brought forward, and it is not known whether or not the drivers of the two vehicles are being considered at fault for any part of the incident.
