Two Motorcyclists Killed During T-Bone Crash in Melbourne
Two men tragically lost their lives Monday evening after they were involved in a motorcycle accident along North Wickham Road, according to preliminary incident reports from responding officers with the Melbourne Police Department.
Initial details surrounding this fatal motorcycle vs. car accident indicate that it was shortly before 6 p.m. on September 19, 2022, when 62-year-old Melbourne resident Ralph Mazal and his 52-year-old passenger Mark South were riding a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the northbound direction of North Wickham Road close to College View Drive. At this same time, a 2012 Ford Focus being driven by 75-year-old Harry Worrall was in the process of leaving a nearby shopping plaza. As Worrall proceeded to exit the parking lot, he drove his vehicle across several lanes of traffic in order to reach College View Drive. This dangerous maneuver positioned the Ford Focus in the direct path of the oncoming Harley-Davison and the motorcycle crashed into the passenger’s side of the sedan.
Members of the Brevard County Fire Rescue and authorities with the Melbourne Police Department were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident where they discovered that the two motorcyclists had suffered serious injuries. Both men were transported to a local hospital for further emergency medical treatments, however, due to the severity of their injuries, they were unable to survive and sadly passed away.
It is unknown if the 75-year-old driver of the Ford Focus sustained any injuries during the T-bone collision.
The investigation into this deadly accident is currently being conducted by members of the Melbourne Police Department. At this time, it is unclear whether or not alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. Updates are expected to be released to the public at the conclusion of the case.
