Palm Bay Biker Killed During a Crash With Another Vehicle on U.S. Hwy. 1
The traffic homicide unit with the Florida Highway Patrol has opened an official investigation into a fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of a 68-year-old man from Palm Bay early Sunday morning along U.S. Highway 1 in Scottsmoor.
According to preliminary accident reports from the authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol operating within Brevard County, it was a few minutes after 1:00 a.m. on May 15, 2022, when a 68-year-old man and his 48-year-old female passenger had just gotten on their motorcycle and were attempting to pull out of a parking lot near U.S. Highway 1 and Sunset Avenue. As the Palm Bay residents tried to make a turn onto U.S. Highway 1, they accidentally positioned their Harley-Davidson into the direct path of an oncoming 2014 Chevy Impala that was driving in the northbound direction. Neither the 68-year-old driver of the motorcycle nor the 35-year-old Titusville man behind the wheel of the Impala were unable to avoid a collision and both vehicles crashed into each other.
The force from the impact of the crash caused both individuals on the Harley-Davidson to be ejected from their motorcycle. Emergency response teams in Palm Bay transported the 68-year-old man to the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville where he passed away shortly upon arrival due to the severe nature of his injuries. His 48-year-old passenger was critically injured during the collision and she was taken to a hospital in Orlando for additional medical treatment. Her current condition is unknown at this time. The 35-year-old driver of the Chevy Impala was unharmed during the deadly incident. It is unclear if either of the motorcyclists were wearing helmets when the accident occurred.
