Fatal Daytona Beach Crash Between Motorcycle and Civic
Police with Daytona Beach responded to reports of an accident that took place close to 7:40 at night on Tuesday and involved a motorcycle as well as a Honda Civic. What we know at this time is that the evening crash happened while the two vehicles were traveling along North Atlantic Avenue and Plaza Boulevard. Shortly before the incident, a 19-year-old man from Daytona Beach was behind the wheel of a 2017 four-door Honda Civic. He was driving this Civic down the northern lanes of North Atlantic Avenue, which is also called State Road A1A at this particular point, when he reached the intersection of North Atlantic Avenue and Plaza Boulevard.
What happened next is not exactly clear at the time of this writing. But the reports and witnesses stated that at some point either shortly before or directly after the Civic stopped at the traffic light a 2019 Harley Davidson FLTRX entered the scene. The rider aboard the FLTRX was driving down the southern lanes of North Atlantic Avenue, meaning that the two drivers were headed in opposite directions. This also means that the driver of the Civic needed to cross over the lane being used by the FLTRX in order to complete their turn onto Plaza Boulevard.
It was during this procedure that the Civic and the motorcycle collided, with the Civic striking the leftmost side of the motorcycle and knocking the biker from the vehicle. Unfortunately, the biker was not wearing a helmet at this time, a factor which can often mean the difference between life-ending injuries and injuries that, while still severe, are still treatable.
The driver of the Civic remained at the scene after calling 9-1-1, and a witness rushed over to begin performing CPR on the badly injured motorcyclist. When the paramedics and EMTs reached the area, they took over the emergency medical treatment of the 34-year-old individual, although it is believed that the severity of the injuries that this man sustained as a result of the crash were beyond the reach of modern emergency medical help. It is not known if they were transported from the scene to a hospital or not, but we do know that they ultimately were declared dead as a result of the injuries that they suffered in the incident.
No charges are currently pending, although the fatal crash does remain under investigation.
