Deadly Polk County Motorcycle Accident Claims the Life of a Davenport Biker
According to officials with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, a 58-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision with another vehicle along U.S. Highway 27 on November 14th, 2020. Their incident reports indicate that the suspect who allegedly caused the fatal motorcycle accident has since been arrested and charged with one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.
According to preliminary investigations from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old motorcyclist Juan Santos of Davenport was driving his orange 2020 Yamaha motorcycle during the early Saturday morning hours this past weekend along U.S. Highway 27 near an unincorporated area of Davenport. As the biker approached an intersection, the traffic signal turned red, and he stopped behind a black 2009 Nissan Versa who was also waiting for the light to change. At this same time, 28-year-old Jose Antonio Perez Jimenez, also from Davenport, was driving his grey 2013 Chevy Silverado SUV at an incredibly high rate of speed in the same area and direction of the biker. For reasons that are currently unknown, Mr. Jimenez failed to slow his SUV for the upcoming vehicles and he slammed into the rear-end of the motorcycle, then fled the scene on foot. The force of impact from this deadly collision catapulted the motorcyclist over 180 feet into the intersection on Legacy Park Boulevard. Sadly, he had already succumbed to his devastating injuries before emergency responders had a chance to administer any life-saving techniques.
Officers with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were finally able to apprehend and arrest Mr. Jimenez at his Davenport home located on Country World Drive West. The alleged offender indicated that he left the scene of the accident because he didn’t have a proper driver’s license. He has been booked into the Polk County Jail. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Mr. Jimenez could be facing additional charges.
