46-Year-Old Biker Killed During a Head-on Collision in Lakeland
Police with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the death of a 46-year-old motorcyclist who was killed during a head-on collision with another vehicle Tuesday night along Maine Avenue in Lakeland.
According to early collision reports from members of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, it was close to 5:30 p.m. on April 26, 2022, when 46-year-old Lakeland resident Lani Kyle Youngblood was driving in the westbound direction of Main Avenue on a green 2021 Kawasaki Sport motorcycle. Witnesses to the incident indicated that the motorcyclist was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed and illegally passing other vehicles on the roadway. As the 46-year-old biker approached the street’s intersection with Dawn Heights Drive, 63-year-old William David Anderson of Lakeland entered the vicinity from the eastern direction of Main Avenue while behind the wheel of a red 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage.
After the motorcyclist made yet another attempt to drive around a motorist in the eastbound lane of Main Avenue’s no-passing zone, he suddenly tried to swerve back into the westbound lane. This risky maneuver caused the motorcyclist to crash head-on into the oncoming Mitsubishi Mirage. The force from the impact of the collision was so great that it ejected Youngblood from his motorcycle and into a water-filled ditch located next to the north shoulder of the road.
Shortly after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls, local emergency response teams and officers with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene of the accident. The 63-year-old driver in the Mitsubishi Mirage was transported to a nearby hospital where he received medical treatment for minor injuries. Sadly, the 46-year-old biker had sustained severe life-threatening injuries during the collision and passed away at the crash site.
It took approximately 1½ hours for the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to retrieve evidence from the fatal collision. Further details surrounding this case are expected to be released to the public at the conclusion of their investigation.
