Two Disney Tour Buses Involved in Rear-End Collision Near Epcot
Just as the tail-end of rush hour was wrapping up on Tuesday, December 12, 2018, two Disney World charter buses carrying multiple passengers were involved in a rear-end car accident near Epcot Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 10 a.m. near the parking booth for the popular vacation destination, which is located adjacent to the theme park’s entrance plaza. The vehicle’s operator, Jacob Buettner, 21, failed to stop the tour bus in time to prevent a rear-end collision with another bus that had just arrived at Epcot’s entryway. He was subsequently issued a citation for careless driving, although it is currently unclear as to why the driver failed to apply the brakes or make any attempt to stop the vehicle.
Passengers seated closest to the front of the bus suffered the bulk of the injuries in the accident. The Reedy Creek Fire Department was one of the first responders to arrive on the scene to provide emergency services. Nine different ambulances transported fifteen bus riders to the local hospital where they received treatment for their minor, non-life-threatening abrasions.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our guests and cast members and we are currently focused on the well-being of those involved in the situation,” a Disney World spokesperson stated in a press release shortly after the rear-end collision. A total of 51 guests were aboard the two buses at the time of the accident.
Disney World in Orlando is the most visited tourist destination in the world, hosting a whopping 53 million guests per year. With that incredible volume of people travelling in and out of the Sunshine State, accidents are to be expected. Thankfully no one was seriously injured in this particular bus crash, but sometimes these types of collisions do not turn out as such.
