Accident Between Pickup and School Bus Leaves One Critically Injured in Orlando

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 19, 2017

A terrifying accident occurred early on Thursday morning when a pickup truck collided with a school bus at the intersection of Whispering Birch Way and Clarcona Ocoee Road.

The bus accident, which is believed to have occurred around 6:06 in the morning, was caused by unknown circumstances, but was bad enough that the driver of the pickup truck (currently unnamed) was cut out of his vehicle and airlifted to the Orlando Regional Medical Center. The authorities refer to situations such as this as “heavy entrapment,” and it often accompanies serious bodily injury from the individual/individuals involved. Pictures from the scene show that the pickup impacted the bus with such force that it became lodged underneath the rear of the vehicle.

The bus involved in the accident was not a part of the Orange County School District, and as of yet it is not known where the bus was coming from or going to. What is certain is that the bus, at the time of the accident, only had one student on board, and that this student was not injured as a result of the crash. The driver of the bus was also reported as being unharmed by the incident.

Currently, and investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the damaging crash. No information regarding culpability has been made, and at this time it is unknown whether any charges have been leveled at either the driver of the pickup or the driver of the school bus. As the crash was cleaned up, the Florida Highway Patrol directed other cars around the crash scene while the Ocoee police department began conducting its investigation.

Crashes that involve school buses are difficult to think about. Every day, millions of children across the country board these vehicles, and their parents trust that the ride will be safe and their children returned to them at the end of the day. As instances such as this show us, this hope can be challenged. While this particular accident did not result in any injury to the sole child aboard the bus, others do not end so well.
