Bike Versus Car Leaves Orlando Man Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 2, 2017

A man riding a bicycle was killed last week after he collided with a car. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident happened in the Orlando area at the intersection of Taft Vineland Road and Orange Blossom Trail. The bicyclist was taken to the nearby Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Nobody else was reported injured. The investigation continues and little is known about the cause of the early morning crash.

Because of the difference in size and speed of a car and a bicycle, and the fact that the bicyclist is unprotected, car versus bike accidents are often deadly. Common causes of a car versus bicycle accident include when the cyclist:

  • Hits an opening door of a parked vehicle
  • Is brushed by a passing car and falls off their bike and onto the road
  • Is struck by a motor vehicle turning right
  • Is hit by a car who failed to stop at a controlled intersection

Regardless of how the accident happened, whenever a car hits a bicyclist, it more often than not results in serious or deadly consequences. Some common car versus bicycle accident injuries include:

  • Fractured and broken bones
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Cuts and lacerations
  • Road rash
  • Head injuries, including concussions
  • Paralysis
  • Brain injuries

When the driver of the motor vehicle acted negligently and his or her negligent act caused the accident and resulting injuries, then the bicyclists has the right to seek compensation for their injuries. Examples of negligent driving in a bike versus car accident includes failure to see an oncoming bike when making a right turn, hitting a biker while driving distracted (i.e., texting and driving) or failing to stop at a stop sign or red light.

If you or a loved one are the victim of an Orlando car versus bicycle accident, you have the right to seek compensation for your injuries – including future medical treatment, loss of wages or, in the case of a death, wrongful death.
