Marion County Car Crash Kills 27-Year-Old Driver from Dunnellon
According to preliminary collision reports from troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol, a 27-year-old woman was killed and 4 others were severely injured during an auto accident last Saturday along SW 180th Avenue in Dunnellon.
Early details from responding officers with the Florida Highway Patrol working within Marion County indicate that it was close to 8:30 p.m. on September 10, 2022, when a 27-year-old woman from Homosassa, accompanied by 4 passengers, was driving her sedan in the southbound direction of SW 180th Avenue. Shortly after driving past the street’s upcoming intersection with SW Highway 484, the vehicle veered off of the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed through a metal gate that was protecting the private driveway of Cannon Farms – a local fresh produce business located next to the highway.
Immediately after the initial collision with the farm’s gate, the sedan continued on its collision course down the driveway while crashing into multiple fence posts and trees along the way before finally coming to a complete stop when it slammed into a section of limestone lining the driveway.
Members of the Marion County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene of the serious car crash and sadly determined that the 27-year-old driver had sustained life-ending injuries during the accident and had already passed away. Four other victims were successfully extracted from the vehicle: an 18-year-old woman, a 19-year-old woman, a 25-year-old woman, all from Dunnellon, and another 22-year-old passenger from Beverly Hills, Florida. Everyone was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in serious condition suffering from a range of severe injuries.
Although the investigation into this tragic car accident has yet to be completed, authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol have stated that none of the injured or deceased victims were wearing seat belts when the collision occurred.
