Aggressive Driving Caused Fatal Florida Three-Car Accident On I-95
Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators released their preliminary report in connection with a recent three-car accident that killed a Sunrise man and closed a section of Interstate 95 for four hours. They say that the victim was a passenger in a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo driven by a 45-year-old Sunrise man. Troopers say that the Isuzu was traveling southbound on I-95 when the driver attempted to pass a 2002 Ford Mustang on the right shoulder of the road. When the driver attempted to pull back onto I-95 from the shoulder, he struck the front of the Mustang and lost control of his vehicle.
The Rodeo careened wildly and rolled several times, ejecting the passenger onto I-95. The passenger died from his injuries at the scene of the accident. The impact caused the driver of the Mustang to veer sharply to his left, where he struck a Volvo sedan. The driver of the Rodeo was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for serious injuries. The drivers of the Mustang and Volvo refused medical treatment. Troopers expect to file reckless driving and other charges against the driver of the Isuzu Rodeo.
Passing someone on the right is against the law and a very negligent thing to do, as anyone who has taken a driver’s education course knows. Passing someone on the right shoulder is even more reckless and negligent, and this accident illustrates that very well. Shoulders are narrow and frequently sloped and soft, making it very easy for a driver to lose control, particularly if traveling at highway speeds. The driver of the Isuzu operated his vehicle in an aggressive and grossly negligent manner, and his actions led to the death of his passenger.
