Person Driving Electric Scooter Struck and Killed on Orange Blossom Trail

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on December 7, 2018

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were on hand to respond to a wrongful death accident that happened earlier this week and resulted in the death of one individual who was riding an electric scooter along Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol state that the incident happened close to 9:00 on Monday Night, and that it was along a portion of Orange Blossom Trail that intersects with Americana Boulevard.

Not much about the person driving the scooter is known. It is believed that they were driving along Orange Blossom Trail, obeying traffic laws, when something happened to cause them to leave their lane and enter a lane of travel that was headed in the opposite direction.

At the time that the scooter left the appropriate lane along Orange Blossom Trail, a Honda Accord being driven by a 43-year-old individual was traveling down this exact lane. The report from the Florida Highway Patrol states that the person driving the Accord did not have time to respond to the sudden entrance of the scooter into their lane and that they were subsequently unable to avoid a head-on collision with this scooter. It is not known if the two vehicles were traveling along perpendicular roads (with one traveling down OBT and the other down American Boulevard), but reports did state that the Accord’s driver had a green light at the time of the crash.

Emergency response crews rushed to the area in an attempt to try and assist the badly injured motorist aboard the scooter. This person was carefully loaded into an ambulance and rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center, but it is an unfortunate fact that the extent of their injuries was more than the doctors and nurses on duty at that time were able to remedy. The driver of the scooter was declared dead sometime after arriving at the hospital.

At the time of this writing, it is not known if any charges are pending against the driver of the Accord. It is also not believed that this individual suffered from any injuries as a result of the collision.
