Train Collides with Car in New Smyrna Beach

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 27, 2017

A collision between a train and a car in New Smyrna Beach has left one woman dead and the police department looking for answers. The train accident, which occurred early on Friday morning, took place along Canal Street, close to where U.S. 1 passes through through the Florida landscape. The train was making its routine trip down the tracks when the conductor, who has not been named, noticed a car stopped in the middle of the crossing. This is believed to have been around 3:30 in the morning.

After seeing the car, the conductor immediately tried to stop the train. With the brakes engaged, the speeding locomotive began to slow down, but it was unfortunately not enough to avoid the motionless car. The train collided with the car, which caused the car to burst into flames. The conductor immediately called for emergency assistance, but when the authorities arrived there was nothing they could do about the smoldering wreck. Inside the car the emergency response teams found the body of just one passenger, and it is not believed that anyone else was near or in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

While the initial investigation took place, Canal Street as well as the 10th Street Crossing were both closed. As of this moment, the New Smyrna Beach Police Department has not issued any further statement regarding the identity of the deceased woman, nor have they put forth any theories as to why she was parked along the tracks to begin with.  It is not known whether she has been identified and remains unnamed because the next-of-kin have yet to be contacted, or if her current anonymity is in place because she has not yet been identified at all.  Either way, the amount of information relating to this particular case is scant.

The police have issued a request for any party or parties who may have information regarding this particular incident to come forward and assist them in their investigation. As more facts surface, there will be more updates to this story on the traditional news channels and outlets.
