Milwaukee Recall for Dangerous Hand Trucks
If you or someone you know has purchased a Gleason brand hand truck between August 2007 and April 2010 then you are encouraged to inspect the tool to discover whether or not it is one of the thousands of hand trucks that the company has recalled due to a problem with the device’s tires.
The report states that Gleason, a company based out of Milwaukee, is recalling the trucks due to a fault with the plastic rims that support the truck’s tires. Due to a flaw in the rim’s design, if the tires are overinflated it can result in the rims buckling completely. This in turn makes the entire device unstable and dangerous.
As a direct result of the flaw with the hand truck, several reports have been filed of individuals being cut and otherwise maimed along their hands, wrists, and face. These injuries range in severity, but none of them are necessary parts of any job and indicate very clearly that there is a serious problem with these tires and their malfunctioning.
The hand trucks in question number upwards of 120,000 and came in two styles: one with a black nylon frame and foot rest along with yellow handles, and one with a black body and a red foot rest along with red handles. The model numbers for these two units are: 40615 and 60610. The model number is located on the crossbar that runs between the handles on the truck itself. Both styles are formed with a molded nylon frame and stand 50 inches tall by 21 inches wide.
The primary locations where these hand trucks were sold were Lowe’s and Home Depot, and both locations sold these truck’s in their stores across the nation. Individuals who believe themselves to have purchased one of these models are highly encouraged to contact Gleason rather than go through the two retail giants. Gleason, for its part, has decided to offer a free replacement set of wheels for each person who has purchased one of the faulty hand trucks.
The potential for damage to be caused by one of these hand trucks is strong, leading to potential disasters around the home and at work.
