Massive Recall on Ragú Sauces Due to Contamination Concerns

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on June 18, 2019

Fans of the pasta company called Ragú received a surprise when the company that owns Ragú, Mizkan America, issued a broad recall on a large swath of its product line over fears of contamination. In an announcement made on Saturday, June 15th, Mizkan America believes that there is a chance that a number of their products may contain slivers or splinters of plastic. While the company said that no consumer complaints or issues have yet been reported, and that the recall was made out of a desire to be overly-cautious, the fact remains that there are an untold number of people who have purchased Ragú sauces who remain unaware as to the potential health hazards.

The statement from Mizkan America went on to list the precise products affected by the recall. In particular: the 45oz can of chunky tomato, garlic and onion that has a best-by date of June 6th, 2020; a 66oz can of chunky tomato, garlic and onion that has a best-by date of June 5th, 2020; a 66oz can of chunky tomato, garlic and onion that has a best-by date of June 6th, 2020; a 66oz can of old world style traditional that has a best-by date of June 4th, 2020; and a 66oz can of old world style meat that has a best-by date of June 5th, 2020.

Mizkan America is located within Mt. Prospect, Illinois (owned by the Japanese food company, Handa), but its products are transported across the entire country. Customers of the popular grocery chain Publix told its shoppers that if they had purchased any of the above-mentioned cans of tomato sauce, they should return the items to the store where the purchase was made in order to receive a full refund for the product.

Again, at the time of this writing, it is not believed that anyone has been injured due to consuming the plastic that may or may not be hiding within the cans of pasta sauce. Anyone who believes they may have purchased one of the problematic cans of tomato sauce is strongly advised to return the item to the store where it was purchased.
