KIA Sportage Vehicle Explosion Destroys Home in Volusia County
The family of a 70-year-old woman from Volusia County is enraged at the lack of action taken by the KIA company as well as the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration for continuing to delay any action pertaining to assisting the woman after her home was destroyed and her pets killed after yet another KIA vehicle exploded in fire.
This situation began on January 16th of this year. On that night, the 2009 silver KIA Sportage owned by the woman in question was parked close to her Deltona home located on Brady Drive. Because it was during the overnight period of time, it seems that the fire was not immediately noticed by either the homeowner or the neighbors. As a result, by the time the authorities were notified about the incident, the fire had already spread from the car to the house.
While the 70-year-old resident was able to be rescued from the building, her dog and her three cats were not. They all perished in the fire. Additionally, the woman inside the home was not pulled without suffering from the debilitating effects of prolonged exposure to smoke. She was hospitalized and treated for this. Ultimately, it took close to a month of treatment and rehab before the woman was able to be released.
Sadly, there was not much for her to go home to.
The daughter of the woman spoke to reporters about the incident, excoriating the KIA company for their failure to do anything to help the elderly woman. According to the daughter, the company has even refused to offer her a new car to drive. It is not clear if the company is attempting to deflect the responsibility onto some other feature of the home, but any efforts in this direction should be immediately thwarted by the report by an independent fire investigator who was hired by the family to examine the area after the fire. According to this individual, there is no question that the car was the cause of the fire. Additionally, their report states that it was an electrical issue with the vehicle that resulted in the destructive blaze.
