One Dies in Lake County Mobile Home Fire

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 20, 2019

A mobile home in Lake County erupted into flames on Friday, February 5th, ultimately resulting in the death of one individual. According to reports from the Lake County Fire Rescue, the incident was first reported shortly before 4:30 in the morning after a person walking by the home heard explosions as well as saw flames shooting from the structure.

Emergency response crews rushed to the scene in order to battle the fire and try to rescue anyone who might be inside. By the time they arrived, the fire was raging out of control, and although they were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures (including other residences), the strength and speed of the fire prevented them from being able to extinguish the flames in the initial home before the fire consumed the structure.

As they worked to douse the charred remains of the home, a team of firefighters also began to inspect the building in order to discover if anyone was inside. When they first arrived, they were told by an unnamed individual that someone was still within the mobile home. Unfortunately, due to the severity of the fire the Lake County Fire Rescue teams as well, as additional firefighters from the towns of Groveland and Mascotte, were not able to access the interior of the building. It was not until afterwards that the search and rescue team discovered the body of the single occupant of the home lying close to the front doorway. This individual was declared dead at the scene.

Currently, the reasons behind the death of this person are not known. An investigation by the state fire marshal will hopefully shed some light on the issue. Based on the reports from the individual who initially called 9-1-1, it does seem likely that the severity of the fire was a direct result of the number of firearms and ammunition that were stored within the building. The explosions heard by the passerby indicate that the fire, although it possibly began elsewhere, reached the ammunition held by the homeowner and caused what might have begun as something manageable to transform into a deadly inferno.
