House Fire in Jacksonville Leaves One Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on April 3, 2020

A house fire that took place within the city of Jacksonville is under investigation by the Florida Fire Marshal as investigators attempt to discover what happened to cause the deadly blaze. Reports from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department indicated that the first suggestions of the fire began to arrive at the emergency dispatcher around 6:30 at night. After receiving the call, numerous firefighters responded and were quickly rushing to the residence where the fire was reportedly taking place.

When they arrived at the scene, they found a single-family home with thick clouds of black smoke pouring from the windows along the second floor. Two of the people who lived within the home were already outside at this point, and they told the firefighters that another person, a child, was still believed to be in the building. After receiving news of the presence of another person within the burning structure, firefighters quickly rushed into the building, risking their lives in an attempt to locate and save the missing child.

It is believed that the firefighters reached the bedroom where this child was located and were able to retrieve them from the building, however the damage already sustained by the young person as a result of the smoke and the heat was already beyond medical help. It is believed that the child was declared dead at the scene of the incident.

At the time of this writing, not much is known about the fire. It is not clear where it started or how. The smoke emerging from the second window seems to indicate that the fire began on the second floor, something which possibly places the origin aware from the kitchen, one of the most common locations for house fires to begin.

The name and age of the child were not released in the initial reports about the incident. An investigation into the fire is still underway, and any developments are likely to be included in updates issued by various local news sources.

It is not believed that the Fire Marshal’s office has yet issued any sort of updates on the incident.
