Bed at Disney Owned Riviera Resort Collapses on Guest
A fun-seeking guest who was staying at the brand new Riviera Resort, one of the many hotels owned by the Disney company that is located just outside of Disney World, was surprised and possibly injured on Monday, December 16th, after one of the features of the hotel room in which they were staying malfunctioned. A statement from the spokesperson for the Walt Disney World corporation indicated that the hotel rooms in which the visitor was staying contain an update on an old classic: foldaway beds.
Apparently, at a certain point during this guest’s stay, they were walking through the hotel room when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the foldaway bed in question suddenly collapsed upon him. At the time of this writing, it is not clear if the incident resulted in the guest suffering from any bodily injuries, although it is not unreasonable to assume that the sudden fall of a fairly weighty object from the wall onto a person’s body might come accompanied by any number of detrimental physical effects.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the Disney World corporation into the incident revealed that the bed fell due to improper installation. It is not clear if this means that some piece of the equipment was missing or whether it simply malfunctioned. The corporation ended their statement by indicating that they were in the process of having all the other beds of this style located within the Riviera Resort investigated to see whether or not they possessed similar tendencies to malfunction.
The resort, which is located in between the famed tourist destination Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios possesses some 300 rooms. It is believed that the hotel first opened its doors on Monday, making this incident one of the very first pieces of news to emerge in relation to the unveiling of this new enterprise.
As stated above, it is not clear if the guest in question was injured as a result of the incident. It is also not clear if any emergency response crews from Orange County were on hand to respond to the incident or whether this event, as are most of the accidents which take place on Disney property, was handled by Disney’s internal security teams.
