One Dead After ATV Flips in Osceola County
The Florida Highway Patrol was on hand to respond to reports of an ATV accident that occurred in Osceola County on the night of Saturday, May 18th. According to the subsequent reports, the incident happened at around 9:30 at night, and involved two individuals who were traveling throughout a private property on a side-by-side ATV, which is a small off-road (all-terrain vehicle) machine that is often able to carry up to six people. These vehicles are often used on farms or on large properties where people routinely need to get from one end to another quickly.
On the Saturday in question, a 57-year-old and a 50-year-old were riding on a privately-owned piece of land that lay close to Holopaw Road as well as 8 Mile Ranch Road. It is believed that the 50-year-old was behind the wheel of the vehicle. At the time of this writing, it is not clear whether or not either of the two men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident, although it is known that at least the 57-year-old was not buckled into the ATV at the time.
The report did not state whether or not the two men were traveling along a roadway, but it is reported that at some point along their journey, just before 9:30, the 50-year-old driver of the ATV lost control of the vehicle. Before he was able to regain control, the ATV flipped over, throwing the 57-year-old passenger out of his seat. The fall out of the ATV and the collision with the ground caused this person to suffer from severe injuries. It is not known if they were struck by the ATV as it was flipping, but the level of the wounds this person sustained suggests that it is likely.
It is not known who called the emergency response crews into the area, but they arrived shortly after the incident occurred. Although the paramedics administered the best emergency medical aid they could, there was nothing they could do for the 57-year-old passenger. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
It is not known if alcohol or excessive speed played any part in the fatal crash. It is also unknown whether or not any charges are currently pending.
