Boy in Critical Condition After Falling into Florida Hotel Pool

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on May 21, 2018

Florida, home to some of the largest swaths of beautiful shoreline available in this country, is also the location of thousands and thousands of swimming pools. From private backyards to public community pools, these oases provide millions of people a chance swim in freshwater, far from crocodiles and other nautical carnivores, and in a confined area where it is easier to monitor children. Unfortunately, it often transpires that swimming pools create a larger danger than previously thought. Such was the case for a family vacationing in Orange County earlier this month.

It was a Monday, close to 8:00 in the evening, when deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department responded to calls from a Hilton Parc Soleil located at 11272 Desforges Avenue. Reports from the officers indicate that the call came in after a young child was found unresponsive at the bottom of the pool.

It is not clear if the child was under the supervision of his family when the incident occurred, nor is it clear if the family was aware their child was using the pool at the time. When the paramedics and other first responders arrived, someone with the hotel staff had already pulled the 6-year-old from the bottom of the pool and had begun performing CPR on the child.

Lt. Ashley Strange, a spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, said that the child was rushed from the hotel to a nearby area hospital. It appears that the child was in critical condition when they were admitted to the emergency medical facility. At the time of this writing, it is not known if hospital staff were able to revive the individual and, if so, if they were able to bring the young person out of a life threatening situation.

An investigation is underway into the event. One of the primary points of focus for this investigation surrounds the hotel and its safety protocols and measures regarding their pool access. It is not clear if any charges are being filed, although the investigation will likely continue for some time before more information is supplied to the public.
