Thanksgiving Day Motorcycle Accident Kills One in Miami-Dade County
Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue are currently investigating a deadly multi-vehicle pileup that claimed the life of a motorcyclist along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 on Thursday, November 26th, 2020. Preliminary collision reports indicate that the motorcyclist was traveling within the I-95 Express North lane in northern Miami-Dade County when, for reasons that are unknown at this time, the biker suddenly crashed into three separate vehicles before being ejected from the motorcycle.
It was approximately 2:45 p.m. Thanksgiving Day afternoon when officers with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue received the first calls from dispatch regarding a potentially fatal auto accident involving multiple vehicles that had just occurred near Northwest 103rd Street and 119th Street in the I-95 Express North lane. According to witness statements, a man driving a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling in the northern direction on I-95 when he unexpectedly rear-ended a Chevy pickup truck, which then caused a chain reaction collision with a nearby Lexus sedan and Mazda SUV. The force of impact from the collision was so violent that the biker was ejected from the motorcycle onto the pavement. Sadly, the injuries he sustained in the crash were far too severe to recover from and he was declared dead at the scene.
After the initial accident occurred, the Chevy pickup truck burst into flames sending the family inside the vehicle scrambling for safety. They were thankfully able to escape with only the minor injuries they received in the collision. The occupants of the Lexus and the Mazda also only sustained minor injuries and were treated onsite.
Local law enforcement agencies in Miami-Dade County are working with the Florida Highway Patrol to reconstruct the events leading up to this tragic auto accident. The identity of the victim has yet to be released to the public.
Oftentimes in accidents such as these, the quick assumption is that the fault lies with the motorcyclist simply based on the fact that bikes of this type are frequently driven recklessly and/or at high rates of speed. However, it is quite possible that something distracted the other driver’s attention from the road, such as a cell phone call, text message, or possibly drugs and alcohol. These details will certainly be uncovered as the FHP investigation progresses.
