Motorcyclist Killed During a Rear-End Collision in Largo
Although several parts of this fatal motorcycle accident are still being pieced together, officers with the Largo Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit are currently investigating the chain of events that led to the death of one individual yesterday evening.
According to early incident reports from the investigative authorities with the Largo Police Department, it was shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, when a semi-truck driver was behind the wheel of their big rig traveling in the westbound direction down Ulmerton Road. As the driver neared the street’s intersection with Tall Pines Drive, the semi-truck attempted to make a right-hand turn onto the road. While they were in the process of making this typical traffic maneuver with their vehicle, a motorcyclist crashed into the rear of the semi and became trapped underneath the truck with their bike.
Witnesses to the collision immediately dialed 9-1-1 and members of the Largo Police Department and the Largo Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene of the serious accident. Despite their best life-saving efforts, emergency medical teams were unable to revive the severely injured motorcyclist and they passed away.
The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed during the crash and they did not show any signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Traffic Safety Unit with the Largo Police Department has taken the lead position in the investigation. No additional information surrounding this fatal collision is known at this time, however, further details are expected to be released to the public as soon as the case reaches its conclusion.
