Marion County Crash Leaves Motorcyclist Dead

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 11, 2020

A multi-car crash that took place within Marion County sometime on Sunday, February 9th, resulted in the death of a 28-year-old motorcyclist. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that it was sometime during the night on Sunday when the motorcyclist as well as numerous other drivers was traveling along the southern lanes of Interstate 75 when the fatal motorcycle crash occurred.

Shortly before the crash, the driver of the motorcycle was on the bike and headed south on I-75. It is not clear if the driver was traveling with excessive speed, although the initial reports did not mention any suspicions on this regard. At the same time as the motorcyclist was traveling south, a pickup truck pulling trailer was also headed in a southern direction.

It is not immediately clear whether or not the trailer being pulled by the pickup truck has the requisite number of lights in working order, lights which are integral in ensuring that other motorists are able to see the extension of the vehicle.

As the biker approached the trailer and pickup, something happened to cause the biker to fail to gauge the precise distance between them and the vehicle before them. This resulted in the motorcycle colliding heavily with the trailer. The force of the collision caused the motorcycle to flip, throwing the biker from the vehicle.

After striking the trailer, the motorcycle spun into the path of a second car. The collision with this second car caused the motorcycle to veer off of the road and into the guardrail in the median of the highway before coming back into the lanes where it was then struck by a third vehicle. It is not clear if any of the individuals inside of either of the three cars that were involved in the crash were injured.

What we do know is that the injuries suffered by the motorcyclist as a result of the crash proved to be fatal. Emergency response crews rushed to the area along with members of the Florida Highway Patrol, but there was nothing that they could do for the badly injured 28-year-old. At the time of this writing, the incident remains under investigation. No charges have yet been filed.
