Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident Near Kissimmee
Kissimmee police accident investigators have revealed few details about a fatal motorcycle accident in Kissimmee but have said that their investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Troopers report that the accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on March 10 when a motorcyclist collided with a vehicle at the intersection of East Vine Street and Michigan Avenue. The victim was a 38-year-old Kissimmee man who was a member of the FLNY Ryderz motorcycle club. The accident closed the westbound lanes of Vine Street for several hours after the accident while investigators with the Traffic Homicide unit reconstructed the accident and debris was cleared from the scene.
Police have not yet determined whether or not the rider’s death was related to Bike Week activities. Bike Week is an annual event that attracts hundreds of thousands of riders to Daytona and Central Florida, and there is usually a corresponding rise in motorcycle accident injuries and fatalities. In 2012, the Florida Highway Patrol reported five deaths and 46 motorcycle crash-related incidents that occurred during Bike Week. In 2006, the worst year on record for Bike Week motorcycle accidents, 20 riders were killed in motorcycle accidents.
We are heading into the busiest part of the year for motorcycle riding in Central Florida. Bike Week and other annual motorcycle events draw riders from all over the country to our area, and drivers and riders alike need to be extra vigilant about driving and riding defensively, obeying posted speed limits, observing riders’ right-of-way and refraining from driving and riding while impaired.
