Biker Killed During Collision with Minivan in Orange County
The family and friends of a 28-year-old motorcyclist are mourning the loss of their loved one this week after he was fatally injured during an accident with a minivan last Friday along Orange Blossom Trail in Orange County.
According to initial incident reports from responding officers with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) assigned to Orange County, it was close to 6:25 a.m. on September 23, 2022, during the early morning local commuter traffic when a 28-year-old man from Sumterville was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle in the southbound direction of Orange Blossom Trail within the outside lane. At this same time, a 37-year-old man from Mount Dora was behind the wheel of a minivan traveling in the eastern direction of Willow Street. As the driver of the minivan approached the vicinity of Orange Blossom Trail, he attempted to make a left turn from Willow Street onto northbound Orange Blossom Trail and in doing so, he positioned his vehicle in the direct path of the oncoming motorcycle. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision and the minivan struck the biker.
Multiple Orange County emergency response teams and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the crash site and when they arrived at the scene of the accident, they sadly discovered that the 28-year-old motorcyclist had sustained severe injuries during the collision and had already passed away. The 37-year-old Mount Dora driver was transported to AdventHealth in Apopka with minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
The southbound lanes of Orange Blossom Trail were shut down for several hours while authorities with the FHP performed their preliminary investigations into the deadly motorcycle collision. Official charges have yet to be filed in this case, although that could change depending on the Florida Highway Patrol’s findings.
