Authorities Still Searching for Suspect in Fatal Orange County Hit-and-Run
It has been over a week since a fatal collision claimed the life of a local motorcyclist on State Road 520 in Orange County, and officials with the local sheriff’s department are now asking for the public’s assistance with the identification of the hit-and-run driver who fled the scene on foot.
According to crash details released to the public by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, it was Thursday, December 1, 2022 at approximately 5:30 a.m., when a yet-to-be-identified male individual was driving a 2006 BMW 650i the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of State Road 520. As this driver approached the area near State Road 528, his vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming 2022 Honda CMX300 motorcycle that was being driven by 60-year-old Paulo Carvalho.
The impact from the wrong-way crash caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from his bike and onto the roadway. Multiple emergency response teams with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the Florida Highway Patrol rushed to the scene of the accident, but despite their best life-saving efforts, the 60-year-old motorcyclist passed away.
The driver of the BMW fled the scene of the accident on foot immediately after it occurred. At the time of this writing, the hit-and-run suspect continues to elude the authorities. “Do not run. You are looking at felony jail time, you are looking at criminal charges. But not only that, but this family is going to be in mourning of the lost of their loved one and not have that closure that they’re going to need,” said Lt. Tara Crescenzi with the Florida Highway Patrol.
