SUV Catches Fire After Crash with School Bus in Orange County

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on October 4, 2019

It was during the afternoon rush hour on Thursday, September 12th, that officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office as well as members of the Orange County Fire Rescue received reports of an accident involving a school bus close to the intersection of Dr. Phillips Boulevard and Conroy Windermere Road. According to the current reports regarding the situation, the incident was in fact a collision, and as well as the school bus it involved an SUV. It is not believed that any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Inside of the school bus at the time of the crash were numerous middle schoolers on their way home from Southwest Middle School. It is believed that the bus had already dropped off the vast majority of its students and that at the time that the accident took place only one adult and one child were aboard.

It was close to 4:30 in the afternoon when the bus reached the intersection of Dr. Phillips Boulevard and Conroy Windermere Road. What exactly happened next is not clear, but we do know that a black SUV entered the scene and wound up rear-ending the school bus. From this information, it seems likely that the SUV was traveling behind the bus, and that perhaps the bus slowed down or began to turn in a manner that the driver of the SUV did not take into account.

The force of the crash caused the front of the SUV to sustain tremendous damage. The windshield shattered, and the entire engine block was crushed. Shortly after the crash itself, the SUV caught fire. Images from the scene show the SUV with its mangled front. It is not known if the bus sustained any damage.

Neither of the two individuals aboard the bus sustained injuries of any sort. The driver of the SUV, on the other hand, was injured. The extent of this individuals injuries is not currently known. It is clear that they were rushed from the scene of the crash to Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment, but the original story did not include any information regarding their current condition.
