Disney World Bus Accident Fatally Injures Woman

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on January 14, 2015

For many people, a trip to Disney World is the adventure of a lifetime. People can ride the amusement park rides and go to the various theme parks. For children, they get to see and interact with many Disney characters. Each year, 52 million people visit the theme park, which first opened in 1971 and covers 27,258 acres.

But for a group of people, a trip to Disney was a nightmare when a casual trip on a bus turned into a horrible accident that killed a woman.

It happened on Dec. 15 around 2:30 a.m. The accident occurred at the intersection of Buena Vista Drive and Western Way, which is located near Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. A Honda CRV driven by Amelia Davis, 29, was waiting at a light at the intersection of Western Way and Buena Vista Drive. At the same time, a Disney commuter bus and a 2015 Chevy Cruze were traveling south on Buena Vista Way.

For some unknown reason, Davis decided to run through the red light when she made a left turn onto the road. The CRV crossed in front of the Disney bus and a collision occurred. The bus was driven 58-year-old Fard Karim of Orlando and it impacted the CRV on the left side.

The CRV spun around and collided with the Chevy Cruze, which was driven by 24-year-old Jeremy Mercado of Louisiana. The Cruze sustained minor damage, but Mercado was not injured.

Davis was critically injured in the accident and was transported to Celebration Hospital. She was later pronounced dead.

None of the 25 passengers on the bus were injured. The accident is under investigation.

This is not the first time a Disney bus has been involved in an accident. In 2010, a 10-year-old boy was hit and killed by a Disney bus as he rode on the resort on his bicycle. In 2011, a Disney bus and a semi-truck collided, leaving five people injured.
