Three-Year-Old Dies in Kayak Accident Near Tampa
Officials in the town of Bradenton, close to Tampa, are investigating the death of a three-year-old child who was involved in a kayak accident while in the water off the coast of Snead Island in Manatee County. According to the official reports, the incident happened on Saturday, April 27th, although it was not immediately clear at what time it took place.
What we know at this time is that the child was on a kayak excursion with two adults and another young person. It is not clear if the adults were the parents of the children. It is also not clear how many kayaks were involved and if each of the children were in a kayak with an adult.
The information we currently possess comes from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. According to this group, the four people had been out with their kayaks close to Snead Island before the incident and were in the process of returning back to the shore when the kayak overturned. The reasons behind this accident are not clear. It is also not clear if anyone other than the two adults and two children were among the party or if the small group was solely composed of the four people.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission stated that rescue teams were alerted to the circumstances and rushed to the scene to try and assist the capsized individuals. It is not clear how long the four people were in the water before rescue arrived. What is clear is that one of the children involved in the kayaking was not able to be saved. The reports indicate that after the kayak capsized the three-year-old became separated from the group. A search was conducted, but it took close to three hours before the child’s body was discovered. It is not known what happened to cause the child to become separated from the rest of the group after the boat’s capsizing.
At the time of this writing it is not believed that any charges are pending against anyone involved in the incident. The death remains under investigation.
