Boat Crash in Melbourne Results in Injury
A boating accident that happened on Melbourne’s Lake Washington on Sunday, January 6th, resulted in one individual suffering from a leg injury. Reports from Florida Today indicate that it was sometime around 2:30 in the afternoon when the incident took place. The precise location of the incident is not currently clear, although the news report did state that the 6000 block of Lake Washington Road was perhaps a place of interest as was the boat ramp leading from this road to the lake itself.
We know from a statement issued by the Brevard County Fire Rescue that the incident did not involve anyone who was not on land, which, based on the inclusion of the ramp and the road into the initial reports, suggests that all of the individuals involved were in the process of either placing their boats into, or retrieving their boats from, the water.
What is not clear is just what took place to cause the incident. Emergency response crews were called in to the location shortly after the initial collision took place, and the Brevard County Fire Rescue sent paramedics who assisted the injured individual. It is not clear if this person was taken to a hospital for treatment or if the Brevard County Fire Rescue was able to fully treat their injuries at the site of the accident.
The injury sustained was relegated to one of the legs of the individual. We do not know which leg, and we also do not know how badly this leg was injured. That it was broken seems certain, although it is also possible that the person suffered from torn ligaments or tendons. Until more information emerges from the authorities around this case we will be left to speculate on the precise nature of the incident as well as the response offered by the emergency medical teams who reached the area in the following minutes.
An investigation spearheaded by the Florida Wildlife Commission is currently underway to ascertain just what happened and it is believed that any updates to this story will receive their issue from this government agency. At the time of this writing, it is not believed that any charges are pending.
