Disney World Employee Killed in Industrial Accident
A thirty-three year old vehicle technician employed at Disney World was fatally injured earlier this week in a tragic industrial accident near one of the theme park’s resort hotels.
At approximately 9 a.m. this past Monday morning, Juan Alberto Ojeda, 33, was working on the driver’s side of a Toro utility vehicle in a maintenance facility located at Disney’s Pop Century Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Witnesses to the accident reported that the motorized cart began to move forward unexpectedly, crashed into a fence, and toppled backwards onto the victim, pinning him underneath. Co-workers rushed over to Mr. Ojeda and made many failed attempts to the lift the heavy cart from atop his injured body, but the weight proved to be too much for them. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found the victim unconscious and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead shortly before 9:30 a.m.
The president of Walt Disney World Resort, George A. Kalogridis, released the following statement to the press after the wrongful death accident took place:
“All of us at Walt Disney World Resort are deeply saddened today by the loss of one of our Cast Members. This is a tragic accident, and we are providing resources and care for those impacted and are working closely with the proper authorities to understand how this happened.”
