Three Car Crash Results in Minor Injuries for Orlando Police Officer

By Orlando Personal Injury Attorney on February 4, 2019

A car crash close to Orlando on Friday, February 1st resulted in the injury of a member of the Orlando Police Department as well as the arrest of an individual that the authorities are claiming is responsible. Early reports from the Orlando Police Department and various news agencies around the Orlando area stated that the incident in question happened sometime around 9:30 in the evening, at that it took place at the intersection of University Boulevard and Heather Glen Boulevard. This intersection is located quite near to the University of Central Florida.

Three cars in all were involved in the accident. One of them, a pickup truck, was traveling down Heather Glen Boulevard when it reached the intersection with University Boulevard. At this same time, the patrol car being driven down the western lanes of University Boulevard by the officer with the Orlando Police Department had also reached this same intersection. Reports from the scene of the incident stated that the driver of the pickup truck, for reasons that are not entirely clear, pulled out of Heather Glen Boulevard and onto University Boulevard without first checking to ensure that the roadway was clear. This put them directly in front of the patrol vehicle, and the officer behind the wheel of this car claims that they were unable to stop before they struck the rear of the pickup.

The crash between the marked patrol car and the pickup truck caused the pickup to collide with another car that was also traveling down University Boulevard. It is not clear if this third vehicle was using the western lanes or if the crash caused the vehicles to migrate out of the western and into the eastern lanes.

After the crash, more police officers arrived. They quickly arrested the driver of the pickup truck, claiming that they suspected the person was driving while intoxicated. It is not clear if the arresting officers administered any sort of sobriety tests at the scene of the crash. It is also not clear if the arrested individual underwent any breathalyzer test or submitted any blood for an official BAC reading.

The officer inside of the patrol vehicle was treated for minor injuries. It is not known if either of the other two drivers involved were also treated for injuries as a result of the incident.
