Currey & Company Chandelier Recall
On Thursday, May 26th, the lighting firm known as Currey & Company issued a recall for several models in their popular crystal chandelier line. According to the recall report, the chandeliers, which Currey & Company sells exclusively through Ethan Allen in locations throughout the US and Canada, have a loop made out of either zinc or steel that holds the chandelier to the ceiling.
The problem lies with the loops made out of zinc, which have now proved themselves to be defective and can break under the weight of the chandelier itself. If this happens, the chandelier can come crashing down from above, shattering its crystal ornaments and the eight little lights shaped like candles. In a worst case scenario, the chandelier could fall while someone is walking beneath it, causing great bodily harm.
According to Currey & Company, the estimated total sales of the defective chandelier amount to 26 items in Canada and around 1,000 items in the US throughout the years 2008 to 2016. The production path of the chandelier is a complex one, with the manufacture of different parts beginning in several different Chinese cities through several different Chinese firms, then the distribution taking place in Atlanta with Currey & Company, and the final stopping point being the Ethan Allen Design Centers. It is not clear exactly where along the process the defective part is introduced, and so the responsibility of this malfunction can rest on several shoulders all at once.
There are currently no reports of bodily damage being caused by the defective chandeliers, however several reports have been filed in the United States regarding the chandelier breaking and falling, although without causing injury.
If you believe that you may have purchased one of the defective chandeliers during the time of their sale then you are encouraged to find the model number, which is 093682, on the chandelier’s inner canopy or the exterior of the chandelier’s original box. If you find that you indeed have one of the defective products, then you are encouraged to contact Ethan Allen immediately to schedule a visit from a trained technician who will replace the zinc loop free of charge.
