Fatal Florida Car Accident on I-4

Two teens accused of carjacking a man in Oakland later crashed the same vehicle as they tried to exit the Florida Turnpike onto I-4. The two teens pointed a gun in the victim’s face and demanded he hand over the keys to his 1998 BMW. They then proceeded away from the scene at a high rate of speed which later resulted in the accident. Both young men were ejected from the vehicle. One was fatally injured and the other is in critical condition.

Florida law enforcement have described this carjacking as astounding based on the number of people who were potentially endangered by this criminal act. Not only was the victim of the carjacking threatened with his life, but all of the other drivers who were out on the Florida Turnpike at the time of the incident were potentially in grave danger. Two armed teens speeding away in a vehicle is a too great a hazard for the Winter Park police. They were in pursuit of the BMW when it failed to negotiate a turn and rolled.

Although no innocent bystanders were injured in this incident, the potential was there. Every day, hundreds of people are injured by careless and negligent drivers on Florida’s highways. These injuries are often time severe and devastating for the victims and their families. Medical bills can quickly get very expensive especially if the injured is unable to work. The loss of income alone is more than many families can recover from, along with the emotional turmoil.
