Woman Struck by Amtrak Train in Intercession City
An Amtrak train was traveling through Intercession City in Osceola County on Wednesday when it suddenly struck a woman who was either crossing the tracks or simply standing on them. It is believed that the accident took place around 6:30 in the evening, only five or so miles away from Kissimmee. The information that is currently known about the situation indicates that only one individual was struck by the train, even though the initial statement recorded that the train had struck two people. An investigation is underway partially to determine which of these given statements is correct and whether or not officials should be searching for a second victim.
The train, a Silver Meteor, carries passengers between New York City and Miami every day of the week. The particular train involved in this incident was Train 97. On Wednesday, Train 97 was carrying 88 passengers. None of the passengers or crew members are believed to have been injured during the incident.
Little is known about the individual who was struck by the train. The current statement from the Osceola County Fire Rescue team indicates that it was a woman, and that she was taken from the train to a hospital in nearby Polk County. Fire officials did not say who transported the woman to the hospital or in what condition she arrived . It is also not clear what her current condition is. Very likely the authorities are waiting until the individual’s next-of-kin are notified before any further statements are made.
Accidents between trains and pedestrians are usually deadly incidents. Very rarely will a person walk away from being struck or run over by a train, and the fact that the individual in this situation made it to the hospital is already a stunning development. However, it is likely that even if she survives the initial injuries she will be left with more long-term damages that may be life changing. People who experience traumatic injuries often state that the worst part of the ordeal is not the initial accident but the weeks, months, and years of medical bills that are challenging to pay.
