Two Die in Orange County Crash Between Pickup Truck and Motorcycle
A collision that took place on Friday, February 22nd, between a pickup truck and a motorcycle is directly responsible for the death of two individuals and the serious injury of a third, says a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The truck vs. motorcycle accident took place around 7:30 in the evening, and involved only the two vehicles mentioned above, both of which were traveling towards the intersection of Jason Street and Oak Ridge Road, an intersection within Orange County.
The pickup truck was traveling down Jason Street when it reached the intersection with Oak Ridge Road. The driver of this truck then made the left turn onto the westbound lane of Oak Ridge. The nature of this maneuver required the driver to cross over the eastbound lane of Oak Ridge, which would not have been a problem if this lane was clear of all traffic.
The motorcyclist was, at this time, driving down the eastern lane of Oak Ridge. They were just approaching the intersection of Oak Ridge and Jason Street when the pickup truck suddenly pulled out in front of them. In the following moments, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid striking the pickup truck, colliding heavily with the truck’s left side. It is not clear at what speed the motorcyclist was traveling at the time of this incident, but based on the extent of the damage done to both vehicles it was likely high.
As a result of the crash, both the 31-year-old motorcyclist and the 66-year-old driver of the pickup truck sustained severe injuries. It is not clear who called 9-1-1 to report the crash, but emergency response teams including paramedics and EMTs were at the area shortly after the collision occurred. Both the driver of the pickup truck and the motorcyclist were then transported from the area to Orlando Regional Medical Center where, despite the efforts of doctors and nurses, they were both pronounced dead. Neither the name of the motorcyclist nor the name of the driver of the pickup truck has been released.
One other person, a passenger who was inside of the pickup truck at the time of the crash, was taken to the hospital. Although they suffered from serious injuries in the crash, it is believed that they survived.
