RSST-Bone Collision in Palm Coast Kills Out-of-Town Motorcyclist
Just as the celebrations, entertainment, and revelry were finishing up at Bike Week in Daytona Beach, yet another motorcyclist lost his life during a collision with an SUV this past Sunday evening in Palm Coast.
According to early motorcycle accident reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 2:09 p.m. on March 12, 2023, when a 68-year-old resident of Murfreesboro, Tennessee was driving his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the westbound direction of State Road 100 in Flagler County.
As the out-of-state motorcyclist approached the highway’s intersection with Bulldog Drive in the right-hand lane, he encountered an 18-year-old man from Palm Coast who was behind the wheel of an SUV trying to turn left onto Bulldog Drive from S.R. 100. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that the SUV failed to yield the right-of-way to the 68-year-old Harley-Davidson driver and the biker crashed into the passenger’s side of the sport utility vehicle.
Several local emergency response teams raced to the scene of the crash, including Flagler County FireFlight, which medevaced the severely-injured motorcyclist to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. He arrived at the medical facility in severe condition and although he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, the 68-year-old Tennessee man was unable to survive and sadly died a short time later.
The 18-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured during the accident.
This fatal motorcycle accident is currently under investigation by authorities with the Florida Highway Patrol. No official charges have been filed. At the time of this writing, this was the third Daytona Beach Bike Week attendee to lose their life during this year’s festivities.
