Orlando Motorcyclist Killed when Driver Fails to Yield
A 74-year-old Orlando area man was killed last weekend when his motorcycle crashed into a turning vehicle. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the motorcyclist was riding his Triumph motorcycle south on US Highway 17 near DeLeon Springs during the afternoon.
Traveling in the northbound lanes was an 89-year-old DeLand native, who was making a left turn onto Spring Garden Avenue. The DeLand native made the turn right in the path of the oncoming motorcycle. Upon impact, the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police note that the motorcyclist was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
